The county seat of Fort Bend County, Richmond (estimated population: 12,018) is a city rich in history. It was first established in 1837 by Robert Handy and William Lusk and developed quickly in the months following. Though a yellow fever epidemic threatened Richmond in 1853, the town bounced back in no time, taking advantage of the new jobs provided by new railroads in the area. Over the years, more and more workers in the agriculture and oil industries began to call Richmond home.

Nowadays, Richmond provides opportunities for education and business alike, with many residents commuting to Houston for work. Richmond also has a close bond with the nearby city of Rosenberg, sharing many of the same schools and planning a lot of development cooperatively. History lovers are eager to visit Richmond’s numerous historical sites and move into its beautiful older homes.
